SAMMAMISH, Wash. - Rising senior Cole Madey posted a one-shot victory at the 24th Sahalee Players Championship (July 2-4) at the Sahalee Country Club, leading the tournament wire-to-wire. Madey opened the tournament with a pair of 4-under 68s on July 2, holding on for the win after a 1-over 73 on July 3 and an even-par 72 on July 4. His final 72-hole score was a 7-under 281.
"This is huge for me," Madey told the Sahalee website. "I've put so much work into my game, so many hours that people haven't seen. To win this means so much to me. I'm going to cherish it forever, especially in the Pacific Northwest."
Madey earned a summer title for the second year in a row after winning the Oregon Amateur Championship last June. He tied for ninth at last year's Sahalee Players Championship. In his junior season with the Bruins, Madey was named to the PING All-West Region Team, as well as the All-Pac-12 Conference Second Team. He led the team in scoring average (71.9), posting five Top 10s. Madey tied for 10th at the Pac-12 Championships and also reached the final round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships, tying for 29th.
Rising junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara tied for eighth (+1, 289), closing with a 3-under 69 and a 2-under 70 on the final two days of the tournament.
