Bruins Best UCI 1-0 in Final Preseason Tune-Up

LOS ANGELES – Sophomore midfielder Andrew Paoli made UCLA's first game at Wallis Annenberg Stadium a successful one on Sunday evening, driving a shot from 25 yards out in the 71st minute that took a deflection and found the back of the net to deliver a 1-0 exhibition win over UC Irvine.
Having just entered the game in the 69th minute, Paoli's substitution immediately paid dividends for UCLA head coach Jorge Salcedo. With the Bruins maintaining possession after a corner, the ball eventually found its way to Paoli above the 18-yard box. His curled shot took a bounce off a UCI defender and went back across the goal, where Anteaters keeper Greg Patenaude couldn't get to it.
UCI only had one shot on goal for the match, giving the Bruins their second clean sheet in as many preseason exhibition matches.
UCLA opens the regular season next week, traveling to the east coast to take on Coastal Carolina for a Friday evening contest. First kick is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. PT. The Bruins host San Diego in their home opener at Wallis Annenberg Stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
