SACRAMENTO - Rising sophomore Devon Bling finished an outstanding summer with a victory at the 94th California State Fair (Sept. 1-3) at the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.
Bling shot a final-round, 5-under 67 to win by two strokes with a 54-hole total of 14-under 202. He opened with a 6-under 66 and added a 3-under 69 in round two.
Last month, Bling bested 310 of his fellow competitors to finish runner-up at the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach Golf Links. By virtue of his showing, Bling was awarded a berth into the 2019 U.S. Open and a likely invitation to play in the 2019 Masters.
The Bruins begin the 2018 portion of their 2018-2019 season in two locations, with the starting five playing at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 16-18) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a group of individuals playing at the Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-16) in Sugar Grove, Ill.
