Three Bruins Competing at 2019 World Championships

Former UCLA gymnastics team members Danusia Francis and Giulianna Pino andย future Bruin Frida Esparzaย are competing in Stuttgart, Germany for the 2019 World Championships, which begin Friday, Oct. 4.
Francis, the 2016 NCAA balance beam co-champion and a six-time All-American, is competing for Jamaica in Subdivision 2 of the women's qualifying on Oct. 4 at 11am local time (2am PT). Pino, a member of the Bruins' 2018 NCAA Championship squad, is competing individually for Ecuador in Subdivision 6. Competition for that group begins at 8pm local time (11am PT) on Oct. 4. UCLA signee Esparza will compete for Mexicoย in Subdivision 9 on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1:30 pm local time (4:30am PT).
This will be the fourth World Championships for Francis, who previously competed for Great Britain at the 2011 World Championships and for Jamaica in 2015 and 2018. Pino competed at the 2015 World Championships prior to enrolling at UCLA. Esparza competed at the 2018 Championships and was an all-around qualifier.
Following the preliminary competition on Oct. 4-5 is the women's team final on Oct. 8 , the women's all-around final on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 4pm local time (7am PT), and the event finals on Saturday, Oct. 12 (vault and bars) and Sunday, Oct. 13 (beam and floor).
