UCLA Registers 87-57 Exhibition Win Versus Stanislaus State
October 30, 2019 | Men's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – Tyger Campbell posted game highs of 14 points and 11 assists as the UCLA men's basketball team defeated Stanislaus State, 85-57, in an exhibition game Wednesday night in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
Campbell, a redshirt freshman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was playing in his first collegiate game after having missed all of last season with a left knee injury (torn ACL). He committed just one turnover and recorded a pair of steals.
Wednesday's game marked the Bruins' lone exhibition contest of the 2019-20 season. UCLA will open its regular-season schedule at home against Long Beach State on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
"They spread us out," said Mick Cronin, the Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach. "It was great practice for us, moving our feet around the 3-point line and their back cutting. As time went on, I thought our athleticism, our defense picked up. It was the difference in the game, because we obviously didn't shoot the ball very well. We were 5-for-22 from three, but I thought our passing was great, for the most part tonight."

Campbell was one of five UCLA players to score in double figures. Chris Smith had 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jalen Hill, Cody Riley and Jaime Jaquez Jr. each registered 11 points.
UCLA outrebounded Stanislaus State by a 42-28 margin. The Bruins totaled 18 rebounds on the offensive end, contributing to 23 second-chance points.
UCLA used a 16-2 run over a three-plus-minute s pan in the first half – capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Campbell – to secure a 28-18 cushion. The Bruins used their defense to help jump-start their offense through the opening half, scoring 16 points off turnovers and 11 points in transition. Campbell nailed a jump shot just ahead of the buzzer before intermission, sending the Bruins into the locker room with a 42-26 advantage.
Campbell finished the first half with 14 points and six assists.
Stanislaus State reduced its deficit to 10 points, at 51-41, with 12:53 to play in regulation before UCLA answered with 10 consecutive points, extending the Bruins' margin to 20 points for the first time in the game. Jaquez Jr. nailed a jumper with 2:31 to go, pushing UCLA ahead by an 83-51 score.
All 15 UCLA players saw action on Wednesday night. Ten of those student-athletes netted at least two points.
UCLA's season-opening game next Wednesday will tip-off at 8 p.m. (PT). The game against Long Beach State will be televised by the Pac-12 Network.
