PHOENIX - After three victories, 14 Top 10 placings and 21 straight weeks at No. 1 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, Bruin alum Scott McCarron finished the 2019 PGA TOUR Champions campaign as the winner of the season-long championship.
Sweating out the end of a playoff on Sunday, McCarron clinched the Charles Schwab Cup when Jeff Maggert holed out for eagle on the third-playoff hole to defeat Retief Goosen. For the season-long championship, McCarron earned a $1 million annuity.
McCarron, in his fourth full season on the PGA TOUR Champions, had finished fourth in 2016, third in 2017 and second in 2018 before climbing the mountain in 2019. He won in April at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, in May at the Insperity Invitational and in June at the Mastercard Japan Championship, adding three more second-place finishes and one third-place showing.
