
UCLA Men Eighth, Women 11th at NCAA Regionals

Colfax, Wash. โ UCLA had a total of three Top 12 individual finishes at the NCAA Cross Country West Regional at Colfax Golf Club, as the Bruin men placed eighth and the women 11th.
The 10th-ranked Bruin men were led for the second-straight year by redshirt senior Colin Burke, who was UCLA's top finisher with a fifth-place finish (29:58.5) on the 10k course. Burke's showing was the highest by a Bruin at the Regional meet since Ferdinand Edman also placed fifth in 2016. Senior Garrett Reynolds earned an 11th-place finish with a time of 30:01.9, his second career Top 15 showing. Redshirt senior George Gleason was the Bruins' No. 3 scorer, placing 34th with a time of 30:37.4. Rounding out the scoring were junior DJ Lawson in 53rd place (31:00.0) and redshirt freshman Darius Riley in 78th place (31:21.3). Other Bruin runners competing were redshirt junior Chris Morzenti, who finished 111th (31:59.0) and redshirt junior Andy Ehrenberg, who was 122nd (32:11.6). The Bruins were competing without top runner Robert Brandt, who sat out the meet due to injury.
Junior Christina Rice paced the Bruin women with an eighth-place finish, UCLA's highest regional finish since Ashley Caldwell placed third in 2005. Rice, who was the No. 3 individual not on an automatic-qualifying team, ran the 6k race in 20:06.2. UCLA's No. 2 finisher was redshirt senior Jackie Garner, who placed 64th with a time of 21:11.3. Three other Bruins placed in the Top 100 โ redshirt junior Lilly Schmidt (73rd, 21:16.8), freshman Emma Tavella (80th, 21:22.4) and senior Cassandra Durgy (97th, 21:32.6). Rounding out the Bruin women were sophomore Alyssa Bautista (104th, 21:40.5) and junior Paige Carter (106th, 21:41.5).
By virtue of their Top 25 finishes, Burke, Reynolds and Rice earn All-Region honors for the second time in their careers.
Portland won the men's race with 65 points, while Stanford won the women's race with 39 points.
At-large selections for the NCAA Cross Country Championships will be announced on Saturday, Nov. 16. The NCAA Championships will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
