LOS ANGELES โ In honor of UCLA's Centennial year, UCLA Athletics and Under Armour have partnered on an unprecedented marketing campaign that launched last week in New York's Times Square. The digital billboards will run through December 15 across three digital displays at One Astor Plaza at 45th and Broadway. Two of the displays stand 48 feet tall by 38 feet wide, while the third spans 77.5 feet in width and 17.5 feet in height.
"As we look back with great pride on the innumerable accomplishments from our first 100 years, we want to celebrate them beyond Westwood and California; we want to share them with the world," said UCLA's Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero. "This campaign showcases a diverse group of prominent Bruins spanning several decades who represent the rich history and tradition of UCLA while also embodying the promise of the next 100 years."
The 11 rotating digital billboard designs each showcase a 15-second loop highlighting the career accomplishments of an outstanding Bruin coach or student-athlete who also went on to reach great heights in a professional career. Featured Bruins are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (men's basketball), Troy Aikman (football), Arthur Ashe (men's tennis), Jordin Canada (women's basketball), Gerrit Cole (baseball), Lisa Fernandez (softball), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (women's track & field, women's basketball), Ann Meyers Drysdale (women's basketball), Jackie Robinson (baseball, men's basketball, football, men's track & field), Russell Westbrook (men's basketball), and John Wooden (men's basketball coach).
The Times Square marketing campaign is part of UCLA Athletics' comprehensive, year-long plan to celebrate the first 100 years of Bruin sports, marked by memorable moments, outstanding performances, records set, barriers broken and 118 National Championships won along the way.
