Bruins Place Second in Fall Finale at Nanea

KOHALA, Hawaii - The 22nd-ranked Bruins concluded the fall portion of their 2019-2020 schedule with a second-place finish at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview. As a team, UCLA shot a 4-under 288 on Wednesday at the Nanea Golf Club, finishing at 17-under 859 for the 54 holes, two strokes behind Arizona (-19, 857).
Senior Mariel Galdiano and freshman Ty Akabane both tied for the runner-up spot at 7-under 212. Akabane shot a 4-under 69, tying for the best round on the course on Wednesday. Starting on the third hole, she made five birdies on No. 4, 6, 13, 17 and 18 along with only one bogey.
Galdiano shot a 2-under 71 in her final round. After making a bogey on her opening hole, No. 2, she produced back-to-back birdies on No. 7 and 8, as well as another on No. 18, with pars the rest of the way.
Freshman Emma Spitz tied for seventh (-4, 215), posting a 1-over 74 on Wednesday. She made four birdies on No. 3, 12, 16 and 18, three bogeys and a double. Senior Clare Legaspi tied for 23rd (+3, 222), shooting a 1-over 74 on two birdies (No. 18 and 4) and three bogeys. Freshman Annabel Wilson tied for 25th (+4, 223), producing a 3-over 76 on four birdies (No. 4, 9, 13 and 14), five bogeys and a double.
The next tournament for the Bruins will be the Tri-Match in the Desert (Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club in Gold Canyon, Ariz.) against Arizona State and Denver on Sunday, January 26.
