ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. โ€“ Sophomore Tate Curran mustered a PR in the pole vault, and freshman Sondre Guttormsen won the event for the second week in a row as the two Bruins capped day one of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic for UCLA.

Guttormsen, who broke a 41-year-old indoor UCLA record last week, finished first after he cleared 5.52m (18-1.25) to win the college division on Friday night. A native of Ski, Norway, Guttormsen cleared 5.71m (18-8.75) at the Columbia Challenge on Jan. 26, topping Mike Tully's indoor mark of 5.62m (18-5.25).

Curran, a transfer out of El Camino Junior College, cleared a personal-best 5.32m (17-5.5) on his second attempt to take third in the collegiate division.

UCLA returns to action tomorrow, as redshirt sophomore Nate Esparza will compete in the shot put, and two seniors in Melissa Maneatis and Elleyse Garrett will take part in the pole vault.
