March 27, 2019 | Gymnastics
A total of six gymnasts from UCLA's Pac-12 Championship squad have earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors in 2019. Leading the charge are first-team member Madison Kocian and second-team honoree Pauline Tratz. Receiving honorable mention acclaim are Anna Glenn, Gracie Kramer, Brielle Nguyen and Kyla Ross.
Kocian, a junior psychology major who hopes to go into the medical field, holds an overall GPA of 3.81 and has been on the Director's Honor Roll every quarter at UCLA. This is her second career All-Pac-12 honor; she was a second-team selection in 2018. Kocian is the only gymnast in the Pac-12 this season to earn both first-team All-Pac-12 and first-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors. She is also a first-team regular season All-American on uneven bars and a two-time Scholastic All-American.
An undeclared sophomore, Tratz receives her first career academic award, earning second-team honors with a 3.80 GPA. The Karlsruhe, Germany native has been on the Director's Honor Roll every quarter at UCLA. Tratz earned Scholastic All-America honors last year, along with second-team all-conference on floor exercise.
Glenn, a junior psychology major, receives her first Pac-12 honorable mention nod. In addition to her studies, she is a member of the UCLA Student-Athlete Mentors Program and the Bruin Mental Health Advisory Committee. Glenn scored highs of 9.875 on bars and 9.85 on beam prior to sitting out the last seven meets due to injury. In 2018, she was the NCAA Columbus Regional vault co-champion with Tratz.
Kramer, a junior studying sociology, earns her second honorable mention status. She is a five-time Director's Honor Roll member and a second-team regular season All-American on floor exercise. Kramer averages 9.904 on floor and hit season-highs on both floor (9.95) and vault (9.85) at last week's Pac-12 Championships.
Nguyen, a senior sociology major who transferred to UCLA in Winter 2018 from the University of Illinois, picks up her first career Pac-12 honorable mention All-Academic nod. A beam specialist, Nguyen averages 9.834 on the event and tied for third at the Pac-12 Championships last weekend. She has been on the Director's Honor Roll every quarter she has been enrolled at UCLA.
Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year Ross receives her second-straight honorable mention nod. The junior is majoring in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology and is a four-time member of the Director's Honor Roll. Ross has dominated the 2019 season, becoming the only gymnast in the nation to receive first-team regular season All-America honors and leading the way in perfect 10s with a single-season school record-tying 11.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's competition.
