ย
Participants
UCLA's female participants include sophomore Alyssa Wilson (shot put, weight throw) and senior Ashlie Blake (shot put). Wilson is a reigning All-American in the shot put, as she finished 14th at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships with a 15.51m (50-10.75) effort. This season, she has already PR'ed in both events, posting marks of 17.73m (58-2) in the shot put and 22.23m (72-11.25) in the weight throw. Blake, making her final appearance at the indoor championships, has also enjoyed success on the big stage. In 2018, she was named a USTFCCCAย Indoor All-American after finishing seventh in the shot put at NCAAs with a toss of 17.07m (56-0).
ย
On the men's side, UCLA's participants include junior Robert Brandt (3000m, 5000m), freshman Sondre Guttormsen (pole vault), senior Dotun Ogundeji (shot put) and senior Justin Stafford (weight throw). It's been quite the indoor campaign for Brandt, a transfer from Cal, who broke Bruin indoor records in both events (7:58.58 โ€“ 3000m; 13:45.45 โ€“ 5000m). Guttormsen has made quite the splash as a true freshman, posting a school record in the pole vault, and then topping it later in this season, clearing 5.73m (18-9.5). He is one of only 32 freshmen competing on the men's side.
ย
Lastly, UCLA's two throwers include Ogundeji and Stafford. This season, Ogundeji earned six top-three finishes in the shot put, posting a season-best mark of 19.84m (65-1.25) at the MPSF Indoor Championships, propelling him to a third-place finish. Stafford, who holds the top weight throw in the MPSF, shined at the MPSF Championships, recording a throw of 21.66m (71-0.75). This not only won him the event, but also moved him to second place all-time in program history.
