Kyla Ross Named West Region Gymnast of Year
April 10, 2019 | Gymnastics
UCLA junior Kyla Ross's dominant 2019 season continues, as she has been named the West Region Gymnast of the Year.
Ross finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation in the all-around, vault and uneven bars, posting a national-high all-around score of 39.850 three times. She leads the nation in perfect 10s with 14 this season and 19 in her career, including at least one in each of the last 10 meets. Ross became the first gymnast ever to earn a double gym slam in one season,ย with at least two perfect 10s on every event. She has six 10s on uneven bars, four on vault and two each on balance beam and floor exercise. Ross has posted 10 all-around victories this year, including a second consecutive win at the Pac-12 Championships, where she also took home the uneven bars and floor exercise titles with perfect 10s. The only gymnast in the nation to earn first-team regular season All-America honors on all four events and the all-around, Ross is now a 16-time All-American.
Ross and the Bruins will attempt to defend their NCAA title next week at the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Competition begins on Apr. 19 in the first semifinal session at 12 pm CT.
