CORVALLIS, Ore. - In a contest that began on Friday evening and finished on Saturday morning, the second-ranked Bruins scored in each of their first three at-bats to post a 10-2, five-inning victory over Oregon State in the second of a three-game series.
The Bruins (39-2, 13-1 Pac-12) had 14 hits from eight different players, as junior Bubba Nickles went 3-for-3 and senior Taylor Pack, junior Jacqui Prober, redshirt sophomore Aaliyah Jordan and freshman Colleen Sullivan all had two-hit contests.
In the circle, freshman Megan Faraimo (13-2) struck out eight in five innings, giving up two runs, five hits and one walk. She struck out the side in the first and two in the third and fourth, posting a 1-2-3 frame in the second.
The Bruins sent 13 to the plate in the top of the first inning, which lasted for 30 minutes. UCLA loaded the bases on singles by Nickles and freshman Kelli Godin and a walk to redshirt junior Rachel Garcia. Pack followed with a double down the right-field line to clear the bases and put the Bruins up 3-0. An RBI double to left by Jordan brought home Pack to make it 4-0, while Sullivan connected on her second homer of the season, a two-run shot to left, to extend the advantage to 6-0. UCLA wasn't done yet though, as singles by Prober, freshman Anna Vines and Nickles, the last of which scored Prober, made it 7-0.
After Oregon State (21-17, 3-12 Pac-12) got one back in the bottom of the first, UCLA answered in the top of the second. Jordan reached on a leadoff single to right, moved to second one out later on a Prober single up the middle, advanced to third when sophomore Kinsley Washington was hit by a pitch and scored one out later on a free pass to Nickles to make it 8-1.
In the third, Garcia and Pack led off with singles, with Jordan reaching on a fielder's choice, as Pack was cut down at second. Sullivan followed with a double to left-center to bring in Garcia to get the lead to 9-1, while a grounder to short off the bat of Prober plated Jordan to make it 10-1.
Oregon State scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, but left the game-extending run 60 feet away, as UCLA won by eight.
