March 29, 2026 | Softball
LINCOLN, Neb. โ The No. 7 UCLA softball team fell to No. 9 Nebraska, 8-4, in a Big Ten Conference contest Sunday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium.
ย
Sophomore Rylee Slimp led the Bruins (29-5, 10-2 Big Ten) at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a home run. Her two-run shot with no outs in the top of the seventh brought UCLA within striking distance, but the comeback fell short as Nebraska reliever Jordy Frahm retired three of the next four batters to end the game.
ย
The Huskers (26-6, 8-1 Big Ten) built a 7-1 lead with a six-run second inning. Alexis Jensen, who started in the circle, highlighted the frame with a two-run home run to right-center field off UCLA pitcher Brynne Nally to give Nebraska a 4-1 advantage. Nebraska added four more runs in the inning on a three-run homer by Hannah Camenzind and a solo shot from Ava Kuszak.
ย
UCLA opened the scoring with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch off Bri Alejandre's elbow pad that brought in a run. The Bruins were unable to generate any more run support in the inning as Aleena Garcia (popout) and Sofia Mujica (strikeout) recorded back-to-back outs to end the frame.
ย
Frahm, who started at first base, tied the game with a leadoff home run to center field in the bottom of the first for her third dinger of the series.
ย
Freshman Natalie Cable entered in relief of Sydney Somerndike in the second inning and allowed a solo homer to Kuszak before settling in to toss two scoreless frames in the third and fourth.
ย
Redshirt junior Alexis Ramirez added a solo home run for UCLA in the fourth inning, sending a ball off the left-field scoreboard.
ย
Taylor Tinsley logged her third appearance in the circle of the weekend. The Lawrenceville, Georgia, native was called upon out of the pen in the bottom of the fifth with runners on the corners and the mercy-rule-winning run at the plate as UCLA trailed 7-2. Tinsley escaped the inning with only limited damage as Lauren Camenzind singled in a run to center field.
ย
Tinsley threw 282 pitches over three appearances during the series.
ย
Jensen earned the win, allowing four earned runs with five strikeouts over six innings to improve to 13-0 on the season.
