UCLA Rowing Looks Forward to Windermere Cup

April 30, 2019 | Women's Rowing

The UCLA women's rowing program will compete at the Windermere Cup on the Montlake Cut in Seattle on Saturday, May 4, with races scheduled to begin at 10:16 a.m. (PT).

This annual spring rowing event takes place in conjunction with the Seattle Yacht Club's Opening Day parade, which traditionally signals the start of boating season in Seattle.

The competitors for this year's Windermere Cup Trophy include the men and women's national teams from Germany, the men's crew from Boston University, the women's crew from UCLA, and the men and women's varsity eights from the University of Washington. The two Windermere Cup races serve as featured events in a regatta schedule on Saturday that will include other collegiate races in addition to juniors' and masters' events.

The teams from Germany will make their first appearance at the Windermere Cup (now in its 33rd season). The German National Federation has become a leader in international competition for years. The women's squad has been successful on the international stage, having won a gold medal in the women's quad event at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

The Windermere Cup has hosted national teams from more than 15 different countries. The Bruins' program last competed in the Windermere Cup in 2004.
