
Bruins Win Second Tournament in a Row, Madey Takes First Title in Playoff

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Bruins closed out the Wyoming Cowboy Classic with a 5-under 283 to take the tournament title with a 54-hole score of 23-under 841, winning their second tournament in a row. On an individual note, senior Cole Madey won medalist honors after winning a playoff with Wyoming's John Murdock.
Madey was tied for first following a 5-under 67 at the Whirlwind Golf Club on Tuesday. After making bogey on his opening hole, he had three birdies in a row on holes No. 7-9 to go with birdies on No. 13, 15 and 17. Madey and Murdock were tied at 13-under 203, but Madey prevailed on the third playoff hole to pick up his first collegiate victory.
Senior Jack Ireland, playing as an individual, finished solo fifth at 8-under 208. He shot a 2-under 70 in his final round, making six birdies on No. 18, 5, 7, 11, 12 and 13, two bogeys and a double.
Sophomore Eddy Lai tied for sixth at 7-under 209. He posted a 2-under 70 on Tuesday, recording four birdies (No. 2, 4, 7 and 17) and a double. Junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara tied for 17th at 4-under 212. He scored a 1-over 73 in his final round with back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and 14 and three bogeys. Senior Patrick Murphy tied for 37th (+1, 217), posting two birdies on No. 17 and 1 and three bogeys in a 1-over 73. Freshman Sean Maruyama tied for 65th (+6, 222), shooting a 1-over 73 on three birdies (No. 8, 16 and 18) and four bogeys.
The Bruins close out the regular season this weekend at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Friday and Saturday at the Papago Golf Course in Phoenix.
