
Bruins Close Regular Season at ASU Thunderbird Collegiate

PHOENIX - The Bruins conclude regular-season tournament play at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate this weekend. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Friday and Saturday at the par-71, 7,333-yard layout.
The starting fivesome for the Bruins will be seniors Jack Ireland, Cole Madey and Patrick Murphy, junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara and sophomore Eddy Lai. Freshman Sean Maruyama will be playing as an individual. Friday's play for UCLA will begin off the first tee, with Murphy and Lai starting at 8 a.m., Yoshihara and Madey at 8:12 a.m. and Ireland at 8:24 a.m. Maruyama will begin on the 10th at 8:42 a.m.
Joining the 37th-ranked Bruins and host and No. 2 Arizona State in the 13-team field are No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Texas, No. 23 North Carolina, No. 25 Baylor, No. 31 BYU, No. 32 UNLV, No. 36 Iowa State, No. 43 Marquette, Colorado, Saint Mary's and Utah.
The Bruins are coming off back-to-back victories at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational (-37, 815, April 1-2) and the Wyoming Cowboy Classic (-23, 841, April 8-9). In six spring tournaments, UCLA also has a third-place finish at the Southwestern Invitational (+1, 865, Feb. 25-26) and a fourth-place showing at The Prestige (+14, 866, Feb. 18-20).
Madey was the winner at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, shooting 13-under 203 and winning the third hole of a playoff. Each of his last seven rounds have been under par, including all three in Seattle, where he tied for 13th (-5, 208).
Yoshihara claimed medalist honors at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational, posting a 13-under 200. He tied school records for lowest score (62) and lowest score in relation to par (-9) in the second round. Yoshihara tied for 17th at the Wyoming Classic (-4, 212).
Ireland was fifth at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic (-8, 208), going under par in all three rounds. It was the second tournament in a row where Ireland finished under par, as he shot a 1-under 212 at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational.
Lai has a pair of Top 15 finishes this month, tying for sixth at the Wyoming Classic (-7, 209) and tying for 15th at the Redhawk Invite (-4, 209). He has been under par in five of the last six rounds.
Murphy tied for 15th at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational, posting a score of 4-under 209. In addition to his 1-under 71 in the opening round of the Wyoming Classic, he is a combined 19-under in his last four opening rounds.
Maruyama tied for seventh at the SeattleU Redhawk Invite (-7, 206), opening that tournament with a 6-under 65. He was also under par in round three with a 1-under 70.
