UCLA Rowing Edged by USC in Marina del Rey

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. – The UCLA women's rowing team lost a dual-meet regatta to crosstown rival USC on Saturday evening on Ballona Creek before a crowd of several hundred spectators.
 
USC's varsity eight and second varsity eight crews each defeated UCLA. The USC varsity four crew finished ahead of UCLA, as the Bruins crossed the finish line ahead of USC's second varsity four boat. UCLA's third varsity eight crew raced against the Bruins' novice eight crew.
 
The first race of the afternoon, which began around 5:00 p.m. facing a light headwind, featured both schools' second varsity eight crews. USC posted a time of 7:10.40, crossing the finish line ahead of UCLA (7:19.40).
 
The second race of the competition featured two UCLA crews – the Bruins' third varsity eight (7:41.80) and the Bruins' novice eight boat (7:45.90).
 
USC's varsity four crew registered a final time of 8:26.80, while UCLA posted a time of 8:36.60. USC's second varsity four boat crossed the finish line in 9:07.70.
 
Saturday evening's competition concluded with the varsity eight race. USC won the showdown with a time of 7:00.90, while UCLA posted a final time of 7:13.50.
 
UCLA and USC will each return to action at the Pac-12 Championships in Gold River, Calif., on Sunday, May 19.
