
Bruins Within Reach of Top Five Spot After Day One of Pullman Regional

PULLMAN, Wash. - On a great scoring day at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course on Monday, UCLA is tied for sixth after the first round of the NCAA Pullman Regional. The Bruins shot a 5-under 275, and with five teams advancing to the NCAA Championship following Wednesday's play, they are just two strokes behind fifth-place Michigan State (-7, 273).
UCLA is in a four-way tie for sixth with Florida, Purdue and South Carolina. The Bruins are three strokes back of fourth-place BYU (-8, 272), four behind third-place Georgia Tech (-9, 271), five back of second-place Oklahoma (-10, 270) and six behind first-place Texas A&M (-11, 269).
Senior Cole Madey is the low Bruin after 18 holes, posting a 3-under 67 on Monday. He is tied for ninth, three shots back of the individual lead (-6), after recording four birdies (No. 10, 14, 16 and 5) and one bogey.
Senior Patrick Murphy and junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara are both tied for 23rd (-1, 69). Yoshihara totaled six birdies on No. 10, 13, 14, 17, 1 and 4 and five bogeys. Murphy tallied five birdies (No. 18, 2, 6, 8 and 9), two bogeys and a double. Sophomore Devon Bling is tied for 37th following an even-par 70. He made four birdies (No. 15, 2, 5 and 7) and four bogeys. Sophomore Eddy Lai is tied for 51st after a 1-over 71, making three birdies (No. 12, 3 and 4) and four bogeys.
Day two of the NCAA Pullman Regional begins for the Bruins on Tuesday at 8 a.m. off the 10th tee in the order of Lai, Bling, Murphy, Yoshihara and Madey.
