PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - UCLA rising junior Devon Bling and Bruin alum Patrick Cantlay will tee it up in this week's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Bling returns to the spot of his greatest triumph so far in his golf career, as he finished runner-up at the 2018 U.S. Amateur. Besting 310 fellow golfers, he made it all the way to the 36-hole final, and by virtue of his runner-up showing earned invitations to the 2019 Masters and the 2019 U.S. Open. One of four amateurs to make the cut, Bling finished at 3-over 291 (55th place). He made the cut on the number at 3-over 197, shooting a 1-under 71 in his third round and a 1-over 73 in the final round. Bling tees off the 10th tee at 1:58 p.m. on Thursday and off the first tee at 8:13 a.m. on Friday.
As he enters this season's third major, Cantlay is arguably the hottest golfer on the PGA TOUR, coming off a victory at the Memorial on June 2, his second professional win. In his last four stroke-play tournaments, Cantlay tied for third at the RBC Heritage (April 18-21) and the PGA Championship (May 16-19) and tied for ninth at the Masters (April 11-14), where he held the lead during the final round. Cantlay is currently sixth in the season-long FedEx Cup standings and eighth in the Official World Golf Ranking. Cantlay tees off the first tee at 1:25 p.m. on Thursday and off the 10th tee at 7:40 a.m. on Friday.
