With Hands' selection on Thursday night, this marked the third consecutive season in which UCLA's program had a starting point guard selected in the NBA Draft (Lonzo Ball in 2017 and Aaron Holiday in 2018). Through the past two seasons in Westwood, Hands averaged 12.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. He flourished as a sophomore in 2018-19, averaging 14.2 points and a Pac-12-leading 6.1 assists per game.
Hands, a 6-foot-3 guard from San Diego, scored in double figures in 26 of 33 games during his sophomore season. He shot 41.3 percent from the field and made 37.3 percent of his 3-point attempts. He finished the year having ranked No. 4 in the Pac-12 in assist-turnover ratio (1.9) and No. 11 in steals per game (1.3). Hands scored a season-high 29 points in a loss at Stanford on Feb. 16, 2019.
Hands has become the 121st overall draft selection out of UCLA.
