UCLA head men's golf coach Derek Freeman has announced the hiring of Bruin alum Parker McLachlin to the post of volunteer assistant coach. McLachlin returns to his alma mater after graduating from UCLA in 2002.
"We are fortunate to have Parker join our staff," Freeman said. "He has an incredible knowledge for the game from his years of playing at the highest level. From being on the men's golf team at UCLA to winning on the PGA TOUR, Parker knows what it means to be a Bruin, and what our players want to accomplish both on and off the golf course."
McLachlin has played in 137 events on the PGA TOUR since turning pro in 2003, having made 56 cuts and earning over $2.5 million. He has produced four Top 10 finishes, including a victory at the 2008 Legends Reno-Tahoe Open. McLachlin has also played in 68 events on the Korn Ferry Tour, making 27 cuts and recording six Top 10 finishes, including a pair of second-place showings in 2006.
"I'm thrilled and honored to be joining the UCLA men's golf staff as a volunteer coach," McLachlin said. "I'm hoping to bring some of my knowledge and experience of playing professionally for the past 15 years to our student-athletes. I'm excited to be a resource for them on the short game and course management. I'm thankful to Coach Freeman and Athletic Director Dan Guerrero for their belief in my ability to make a positive impact on these young men's lives."
McLachlin (1999-2002) played in 47 tournaments during his four years in Westwood, recording eight Top 10s and 14 rounds in the 60s. The sociology major was named Pac-10 Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore and a junior.
