SACRAMENTO - Entering the final round at the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course at Haggin Oaks trailing by three shots, rising junior Devon Bling came back to win his second consecutive California State Fair Amateur on Monday
Bling became the first defending champion to win the California State Fair Amateur since 2000-2001. Following rounds of 68 and 66 to put him at 10-under 134 heading into Monday's final round, Bling trailed Michael Cliff by three. He was still down by that margin until he made three birdies in a row on holes No. 10, 11 and 12 to tie for the lead. Both Bling and Cliff would match scores for the remaining six holes to force a playoff. Bling then made an eagle on the par-5 first hole to win the tournament.
The California State Fair Amateur is one of the oldest and most prestigious Amateur Championships in the West.
