BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The UCLA men's soccer team battled closely with No. 2-ranked Indiana on Monday morning, but ultimately dropped a 2-1 decision in double overtime in the final game of the IU/Adidas Credit Union Classic.
Junior midfielder and Pitt transfer Marcony Pimentel recorded his first goal in a Bruin uniform in the loss. The Bruins are now 1-1 after topping Northwestern 1-0 in the opening game of the tournament on Friday night.
Jack Maher potted the game-winning goal for the Hoosiers (2-0-0) in the 104th minute, finishing off a corner kick that found its way through the six-yard box.
UCLA and Indiana were originally scheduled to play on Sunday night, but had the game postponed due to lightning in the area.
Pimentel led the Bruins with four shots in the contest. Junior forward Milan Iloski had three shots, and earned an assist on Pimentel's 53rd-minute marker.
Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Garces made four saves in the game.
UCLA returns home this weekend to play its first games of the season at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. First up, the Bruins host defending national champion Maryland on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. UCLA then welcomes Georgetown on Monday, Sept. 9 for a 5:00 p.m. showdown.
