It was a sloppy start for UCLA in the first, as the Bruins turned the ball over seven times before scoring a point and found themselves down 8-0 in the first several minutes. Japreece Dean stopped the bleeding with a 3-pointer from the elbow extended (6:04), but a quick 5-0 personal run from Hristova gave WSU a 13-3 lead at the first media stoppage. With the Cougars leading 23-13, Osborne hit her second long ball of the game to cut the deficit to seven at the 8:19 mark. Grace Sarver answered right back with a three of her own, forcing a timeout from Michael Price Family Head Women's Basketball Coach Cori Close. After a scoring drought from both teams, Osborne sliced through the paint for lay-ups on two-straight possessions, giving her 10 points on the night and cutting the Cougar lead to 26-20 (5:24). With the Bruins down 32-22, Osborne continued her stellar half with her third 3-pointer (2:02). Later, Jaden Owens followed her own missed free throw and kicked the ball out to the perimeter, with the ball eventually swinging to Kiara Jefferson for a 3-pointer (32-29). The Bruins would head to the locker room down 34-31. Osborne was sensational in the first 20 minutes, recording 15 points and four rebounds.

Osborne maintained her intensity to open the third, pulling the Bruins to within one (38-37) with a converted and-one at the 8:36 mark. Down one, Michaela Onyenwere followed with her own three-point play to give the Bruins their first lead of the night (40-38). With the Bruins down four, Osborne and Dean hit back-back jumpers to tie the game at 48 (2:52). Hristova connected in the paint (0:45) to take the lead back for the Cougars, and the score would settle at 52-51 heading in to the final frame.

After an exchange of baskets left the Bruins down three, Dean found Osborne in transition for the driving lay-up, cutting UCLA's deficit to 56-55.
