February 07, 2020 | Women's Tennis
CHICAGO โ The fourth-seeded UCLA women's tennis team shut out host Illinois in its opening match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Friday, advancing to Saturday's quarterfinal round at the XS Tennis Village.
The Bruins (5-0) will take on Florida State at 1:30 p.m., PT on Saturday. The Seminoles edged No. 5 Texas, 4-3, on Friday.
Freshman Sasha Vagramov posted her first-career clinching victory, the third straight-set triumph of the evening for UCLA. Freshman Abbey Forbes and redshirt senior Jada Hart also won. The Bruins were victorious on their top two doubles courts, as well, without a loss. Illinois dropped to 3-2 with the loss.

The Fighting Illini served to open each doubles match and the second-ranked pair of Hart and sophomore Elysia Bolton set the tone early for UCLA. The Bruins immediately earned a break of serve and coasted to a 6-1 win over Emilee Duong and Josie Frazier on the top court.
With the Court-3 tandems locked in a close one, Forbes and junior Annette Goulak took charge down the stretch on the middle court for UCLA. Facing off against Sasha Belaya and Mia Rabinowitz, the Bruins took the final three games for a 6-3 victory and the doubles point.
The Bruins won five of six first sets in singles play, surrendering no more than two games on any of the courts. Fifth-ranked Forbes only got stronger against Rabinowitz on Court 2, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 win that improved her record to 17-2 and a team-best 5-0 in dual matches.
No. 16 Hart seized her third singles win of the dual-match season in as many tries, posting identical 6-2 scores against Belaya on Court 3 to push UCLA within one point of the overall victory.
Already with three dual-match singles wins under her belt coming into the match, Vagramov had yet to post the elusive decider. She finally did so against Duong on Court 6, completing a 6-1, 6-3 result.
