March 04, 2020 | Men's Tennis
SAN FRANCISCO โ Junior Keegan Smith of the UCLA men's tennis team was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 24-March 1, the conference announced Wednesday.
Smith earned wins over two ranked singles opponents as UCLA registered a sweep in the Pacific Northwest to open Pac-12 play. Friday, he beat No. 119 Ewen Lumsden, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to cap the Bruins' 5-0 defeat of Washington. Smith only needed two sets to take down 19th-ranked Joshua Charlton of Oregon Sunday, posting a 6-2, 6-2 result in a match where every win was necessary. UCLA went on to take the near four-hour marathon, 4-3.
The Pac-12 Player of the Week award marks the third of Smith's career and 44thย in the history of the UCLA men's tennis program.
This also marks the ninth time UCLA tennis has swept the Pac-12 Player of the Week awards, as junior Abi Altick was selected for the women's honor Wednesday. Altick and Smith accomplished the same feat April 23, 2019.
ALSO NOMINATED: Axel Geller, STAN; Jake Sands, USC; Slava Shainyan, UTAH
