LOS ANGELES - Junior Holly Azevedo struck out a season-best seven in a complete-game, five-hit victory, while junior Delanie Wisz hit a three-run homer, as the top-ranked Bruins defeated No. 22 UCF, 4-2, on Friday at Easton Stadium.
Azevedo (7-0) had 1-2-3 innings in the third, fourth and sixth, striking out a pair in the first, third and fifth frames. She allowed two runs and two walks. Six different players accounted for the Bruins' six hits.
UCF (17-4) scored in its first at-bat, but one swing in the bottom of the first gave UCLA (22-1) the lead. Junior Kinsley Washington led off with an infield single to the right side and moved to second on a sacrifice by junior Briana Perez. Redshirt junior Aaliyah Jordan followed with a walk, and one out later, Wisz smashed a homer to center, her fourth of the season, to put the Bruins up 3-1.
The Knights cut their deficit to one with a tally in the second, but the Bruins matched it in their half. Sophomore Kelli Godin reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on a Washington fly out and scored on a Perez sacrifice fly to center to make it 4-2.
Azevedo limited UCF to two hits the rest of the way to complete the victory.
The Bruins play twice on Saturday, taking on Boston U. at 4:30 p.m. and No. 18 Minnesota at 7 p.m. Both matchups will feature free live audio on UCLABruins.com.
