Maya Brady was named the 2020 Softball America Freshman Player of the Year, as announced on Wednesday.
Brady led the Bruins with seven home runs and was tied for first with 28 runs batted in, adding a .356 batting average and a .699 slugging percentage. The freshman was also third with 22 runs scored and 11 walks, tied for second with seven multiple-RBI games and tied for third with seven multi-hit contests. Nationally, Brady tied for 20th in RBI and tied for 46th in homers.
Brady was named the Pac-12 Conference Player and Freshman of the Week on Feb. 11. She hit for the home run cycle, belting two solo homers, a pair of two-run shots, two three-run bombs and a grand slam. Perhaps her biggest home run of the year didn't count towards her season ledger, as she hit a three-run homer versus the USA Olympic Team on Feb. 23. Brady had hits in 19 of 26 games and RBI in 16 of 26 games.
Brady's honor is the latest bestowed to UCLA by Softball America. Sophomore Megan Faraimo was named the SA Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-American. Redshirt junior Aaliyah Jordan was also a Softball America First Team All-American, while junior Briana Perez was named Third Team All-American.
