Filby, Colwell Earn Pac-12 Academic Honors

LOS ANGELES – Sophomore left-handed pitcher Daniel Colwell and sophomore right-handed pitcher Jack Filby were both named to the 2020 Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll, the league announced on Monday morning.
To qualify for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher and have served at least one year of residence at the institution. As sophomores, both Colwell and Filby were in their first year of eligibility for the honor.
Colwell, a cognitive science major, had a strong year in the classroom in 2019-20, making the UCLA Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both fall and winter quarters before earning recognition from the Pac-12. On the mound, he was unscored upon In three of four outings this past season.
Filby, a history major, is fresh off being named to the UCLA All-Academic Team as the Bruin with the highest GPA on the baseball team. The Sacramento native was also named to the Director's Honor Roll in fall and winter. Filby was spotless on the mound in 2020, allowing no hits or runs in his 2 1/3 innings of relief work.
