Five Bruin Alumnae Represented on WNBA Rosters
July 24, 2020 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – UCLA Women's Basketball boasts three players, an Associate Head Coach, and a Director of Basketball Operations across WNBA franchises as the league kicks off its 2020 season on Saturday, July 25.
Jordin Canada (Seattle Storm), Monique Billings (Atlanta Dream), and Kennedy Burke (Indiana Fever) each made opening day rosters as active players. Noelle Quinn is Associate Head Coach for the Storm while Kari Korver enters her first season as Director of Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Sparks.
Jordin Canada – Guard, Seattle Storm
Canada enters her third season with the Storm after an historic career with the Bruins. The 2018 alum graduated as UCLA's all-time leading assister (831 ast) and the No. 2 scorer (2,153 pts) in program history. She helped lead the Bruins to three straight Sweet 16 appearances (2016-18), including an Elite 8 run in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Canada was selected by the Storm with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 Draft and went on to win a WNBA title with Seattle in her rookie season. After a knee injury forced legendary Storm point guard Sue Bird to miss most of the 2019 season, Canada entered a starting role and put up 9.8 points and 5.2 assists per contest.
Monique Billings – Forward, Atlanta Dream
Billings opens her third season with the Dream after being selected with the 15th overall pick (second round) in the 2018 WNBA Draft. She put up career highs in points (5.5) and rebounds (6.9) this past season and notched four double-digit scoring performances. A member of UCLA's 1,000-point club, Billings scored 1,761 points across her career and also pulled down 1,159 rebounds, the second-most all-time in program history. She won a WNIT title with the Bruins as a freshman in 2014 and went on to help lead the team to three-straight Sweet 16 appearances with her classmate, Canada.
Kennedy Burke – Guard/Forward, Indiana Fever
Burke enters her second season with the Indiana Fever as the Bruins' third active WNBA player. Burke put up 4.4 points and 1.5 rebounds in 2019, scoring a career-high 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting against the Mercury (June 9). She was selected by the Dallas Wings with the 22nd overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft, but, ultimately, signed with the Fever in free agency after training camp. The Chatsworth, Calif., native graduated from UCLA in 2019 after playing in four-straight Sweet 16s with the Bruins. Burke was a stat-staffer throughout her career, totaling 1,513 points, 657 rebounds, 258 assists, 237 steals, and 123 blocks.
Noelle Quinn – Associate Head Coach, Seattle Storm
Quinn's strong presence in the WNBA continues into the 2020 season, as she has followed her 11-year career with her second-straight season as a coach with the Storm. She capped her playing career with a WNBA title in 2018 before kicking off her coaching career with the franchise. Quinn is the most recent UCLA Women's Basketball alumna to be inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame, as she was a member of the recently announced 2020 class. She was the first Bruin men's or women's player to total 1,700 points, 700 rebounds, and 400 assists in a career. The 2007 grad also helped the Bruins to their first and only Pac-10 Tournament title in 2006.
Kari Korver – Director of Basketball Operations, Los Angeles Sparks
Korver enters her first season in the Sparks' front office. In her role, she will assist with scouting and logistical efforts for the team. She returned to L.A. after serving as an assistant coach for University of Colorado Women's Basketball, where coached on former UCLA Assistant Coach Jenny Huth's staff during the 2019-20 season. Korver finished her UCLA career in 2017 tied with the Lisa Willis for the most three-pointers made in program history (256). The prolific shooter also registered the top two three-point seasons in program history, connecting on 77 long balls in 2017-17 and 74 in 2014-15.
