Trujillo, Garner Earn Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarships Ahead of Law School

LOS ANGELES โ Millen Trujillo and Jackie Garner have been named recipients of Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarships for the upcoming academic year, the Conference office announced today. The pair comprised two of 23 total student-athletes honored with $9,000 scholarships by the Pac-12.

Trujillo and Garner have competed on UCLA's Cross Country and Track & Field teams since 2015-16 and both recently graduated with the Class of 2020. Trujillo graduated with degrees in Political Science and Geography and is headed to Harvard Law School to pursue his Juris Doctor. He was also named UCLA's male Scholar Athlete of the Year this past June. Garner graduated with a degree in Human Biology & Society and is set to attend Southwestern Law School in the fall.

Both student-athletes compiled extensive distance running careers for the Bruins. Trujillo competed in 38 total meets for the Cross Country and Track & Field Programs, including nine postseason meets. He notched personal bests of 1:56.81 (800m), 3:46.20 (1500m), and 8:14.41 (3000m). He also posted a lifetime-best time of 16:16.16 in the 5k at the UCR vs. UCLA Dual Meet to open the 2019 cross country season.

Garner toed the line for the Bruin distance program 45 times since 2016. She most recently finished 15th overall in the 5000m at the MPSF Indoor Championships, crossing the line at 16:41.95. Her final track season also included personal-best performances in the 3000m (9:49.19) and mile (5:01.58). Garner was on the line for the Bruins this past cross country postseason, competing at the NCAA West Regional Championships and the Pac-12 Championships.

- Maintained an overall undergraduate minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 (based on a 4.00 scale);
- Completed his/her final season of intercollegiate athletics eligibility in all sports or be in his/her final year of undergraduate study, having exhausted athletics eligibility in all sports;
- Been accepted to or already be enrolled as a full-time student in a graduate or professional program at an accredited institution, or in a postgraduate program for which an undergraduate degree is required for admission;
- Performed with distinction as a member of a varsity team; and
- Exemplified behavior, both in competition and beyond, in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution, and intercollegiate athletics.
