- Trevor Bauer, RHP, Cincinnati Reds โ Bauer had a solid showing in his lone start last week, giving up just five hits and two earned runs while striking out five against the White Sox on Sept. 19. He remains a candidate for the NL Cy Young Award heading into the final stretch of the season, as he ranks top-five league-wide in a variety of stats including ERA (1.80, second), WHIP (0.82, second), H/9 (5.1, second), strikeouts (88, third), complete games (2, first), and shutouts (2, first).
- Griffin Canning, RHP, Los Angeles Angelsย โ Canning fired five innings of one-run ball at home against Arizona on Sept. 17 to notch his first win of the 2020 campaign. He has a 4.29 ERA in 10 starts for the Angels this year, his first full season in the Los Angeles rotation.
- Gerrit Cole, RHP, New York Yankees โ Cole had another strong outing in his last start for the Yankees, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finishing the contest with three hits and one earned run against with eight strikeouts in seven innings. He's allowed one earned run or fewer in all three of his September starts. Cole's debut season in New York has been a fine one, as he leads the AL in complete games (2) and ranks second in strikeouts (87) and seventh in ERA (3.00).
- Brandon Crawford, SS, San Francisco Giants โ Crawford continued a resurgent 2020 season with a pair of explosive offensive performances, going 3-5 with two doubles and a home run on Sept. 16 before clubbing a grand slam as part of a 2-5 outing at Oakland on Sept. 20. He is slashing .277/.349/.473 this year for San Francisco, putting him on pace to set career highs in all three categories.
- Pat Valaika,ย INF, Baltimore Orioles โ Valaika appeared in five games over the last week, going 2-13 with a pair of runs scored.
- Dave Roberts, manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has steered his club to an MLB-best 38-16 record. The Dodgers clinched a playoff spot last week and are on track for their eighth consecutive NL West division title.
- Jordin Canada, G, Seattle Storm โ Jordin Canada ('18) continued to progress in her third season with the Seattle Storm, starting 11 games at the point. She averaged a career-high 5.5 assists per contest, the third-highest total in the league. She recorded a pair of 10-assist performances for the Storm and added six double-digit scoring games. She helped lead the Storm to an 18-4 record and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and have already advanced to the semifinal rounds.
- Seattle Associate Head Coachย Noelle Quinnย ('07) has helped guide the Storm to an 18-4 record and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming WNBA Playoffs. Quinn was elevated to Associate Head Coach for the duration of the 2020 WNBA season.
- The Storm are taking on the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA Playoff semifinals.
- Krys Barnes, LB, Green Bay Packers โ Coming off a debut to remember, Barnes collected three tackles in just 15 defensive snaps for 2-0 Green Bay.
- Jayon Brown, ILB, Tennessee Titans โ Brown totaled seven tackles, including one for a loss of three yards, and one pass defense as Tennessee improved to 2-0.
- Ka'imi Fairbairn, K, Houston Texans โ Fairbairn accounted for 10 of Houston's 16 points, converting field goals of 44, 35 and 45 yards and an extra-point try. He did not miss an attempt and added one touchback.
- Darnay Holmes, CB, New York Giants โ The rookie posted his second multi-tackle showing in as many games, taking down a pair of Bears.
- Myles Jack, MLB, Jacksonville Jaguars โ Jack matched his Week 1 performance with a team-high 11 tackles. He also recorded a pass defense.
- Joshua Kelley, RB, Los Angeles Chargers โ One week after scoring his first professional touchdown, Kelley accumulated 64 rushing yards on a team-high 23 carries. He added two receptions for 49 yards, including a 35-yard catch and run on the Chargers' opening drive.
- Eric Kendricks, MLB, Minnesota Vikings โ Kendricks posted his second double-digit tackle performance in as many games, turning in a game-high 12 stops. One went for a loss of two yards and moved him into a tie with teammate and fellow Bruin Anthony Barr for second place in franchise history with 36 career TFLs.
- Marcedes Lewis, TE, Green Bay Packers โ The 15-year veteran caught one pass for four yards in a starting role.
- Cassius Marsh, DE, Jacksonville Jaguars โ Making his debut as a Jaguar, Marsh registered three tackles. A quartet of Bruins participated in the showdown with Tennessee, as Marsh joined Brown, Jack and Matt Dickerson.
- Takkarist McKinley, DE, Atlanta Falcons โ McKinley was a thorn in the side of the Dallas offense in limited action. He logged three tackles, including one for a loss of four yards, and one QB hit before exiting in the first quarter due to injury.
- Fabian Moreau, CB, Washington Football Team โ Moreau, who recorded an interception in Week 1, reentered the starting lineup and totaled three total tackles.
- Matthew Slater, WR, New England Patriots โ Slater posted one tackle on special teams in Sunday night's thrilling Super Bowl XLIX rematch.
- Jacob Tuioti-Mariner, DT, Atlanta Falcons โ Tuioti-Mariner saw increased snaps on defense and finished with five total tackles.
- Kenny Young, ILB, Los Angeles Rams โ Young took advantage of his first 2020 start, recovering a Philadelphia fumble to set up a short field for the Rams' initial offensive possession. He added four tackles and one QB hit to help the Rams improve to 2-0.
- OLB Anthony Barr (Minnesota Vikings), DE Matt Dickerson (Tennessee Titans), OT Andre James (Las Vegas Raiders), OT Conor McDermott (New York Jets), OT Kolton Miller (Las Vegas Raiders) and C Scott Quessenberry (Los Angeles Chargers) also played, but did not record any statistics. Barr suffered a torn pectoral and was placed on injured reserve Monday.
- PGA Tourย โย Patrick Cantlay made the cut at the U.S. Open, tying for 43rd. The TOUR heads to the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (Thursday-Sunday). Kevin Chappell, Parker McLachlin and John Merrick are in the field.
- PGA Tour Championsย โ Brandt Jobeย (-3) was the top Bruin finisher at the Pure Insurance Championship, tying for 25th. The Tour is off until Oct. 9.
- Korn Ferry Tour โย After a week off, the KFT is in Wichita, Kan. for the Wichita Open Supporting Wichita's Youth (Thursday-Sunday). Jake Knapp is in the field.
- European Tour โย Thanks to a final-round, 7-under 65, Pedro Figueiredo tied for 18th at the Open de Portugal at Royal Obidos in Portugal.
- LPGA Tour โย Bronte Law and Mo Martin (-2) were the top Bruin finishers, tying for 51st at the Cambia Portland Classic. The Tour is off until Oct. 1.
- Symetra Tour โ The Tour heads to Longwood, Fla. for the IOA Classic (Friday-Sunday). Stephanie Kono, Lee Lopez, Louise Ridderstrom and Lilia Vu are in the field.
- Frankie Amaya, MF, FC Cincinnati โ Started and played the full 90 in FC Cincinnati's 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. He's made 11 appearances โ all starts โ and scored his first professional goal this year.
- Reggie Cannon, D, Boavista FC (Portugal) โย After completing a transfer from FC Dallas last week, Cannon made his European debut on Saturday, starting and playing the entire game as Boavista drew with CD Nacional 3-3.
- Ryan Hollingshead, D, FC Dallas โ Subbed on and scored the game-winning goal in FC Dallas' 3-2 win over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. Hollingshead's marker came in the 86th minute following a poor back pass from an SKC defender that caused a turnover inside the 18-yard box. After a failed clear by the SKC goalie, the ball came right to Hollingshead at the top of the box, and he finished into a wide open net for the tally.
- Former UCLA midfielder/defender and 2019 team captain Matthew Powell signed a contract with Greenville Triumph SC of the USL.
- Kelyn Rowe, MF, New England Revolution โ Subbed on and played 24 minutes in New England's scoreless draw with NYCFC on Saturday.
- Jackson Yueill, MF, San Jose Earthquakes โ Started and played the full 90 in San Jose's loss to Portland on Saturday.
- Zoey Goralski, MF, Chicago Red Stars; Sarah Woldmoe,ย MF, Sky Blue FC (NWSL) โ Goralski and Woldmoe earned starts for their respective teams in a 4-1 victory by the Chicago Red Stars on Sept. 20. Goralski scored the game-winning goal in the 28th minute, her first career goal with Chicago. Goralski played in 78 minutes of the contest, while Woldmoe played the full 90.
- Abby Dahlkemper, D,ย Katelyn Rowland, GK, North Carolina Courage; Sydney Leroux, F, Orlando Pride (NWSL) โ Dahlkemperย wore the captain's armband and was voted Hardest Working Player of the Game during a scoreless draw against Orlando Pride on Sept. 19. Dahlkemper and Leroux played the full 90 for their respective teams.ย It was Leroux's first game played in 343 days. Rowland was an unused sub.ย
- Anika Rodriguez, MF, PSV Vrouwen (Netherlands) โ Rodriguez played in a 4-1 friendly victory over Genk on Sept. 17.
- Maxime Cressyย โ Cressy was unable to advance out of singles qualifying Monday at Roland-Garros, dropping a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Kyrian Jacquet. Cressy, who was born in Paris, previously took part in singles qualifying at January's Australian Open and reached the singles second round at the US Open earlier this month.
- Jean-Julien Rojer โ Rojer and partner Horia Tecau suffered a 6-4, 6-4 loss to eighth-seeded Wesley Koolhof/Nikola Mektic in their doubles first-round match at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome. Rojer/Tecau bounced back with a win at the European Hamburg Open in Hamburg, Germany, however, as top-seeded Juan Sebastian Cabal/Robert Farah was forced to retire from Tuesday's first-round showdown. Roland-Garros will follow for Rojer/Tecau.
- Robin Andersonย โ Anderson was dealt a 6-4, 6-2 loss by 20th-seeded Wang Xinyu in singles qualifying Tuesday at Roland-Garros. Anderson, who has now reached the qualifying rounds of each Grand Slam, earned the first two WTA main-draw wins of her career earlier this month at the Prague (Czech Republic) Open.
- Ena Shibahara โ Seventh-seeded Shibahara/Shuko Aoyama was dominant en route to the doubles semifinal round at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome. The pair notched straight-set wins over Kiki Bertens/Aranxta Rus, Monica Niculescu/Simona Halep and Asia Muhammad/Arina Rodionova to earn a spot in the final four. There, Shibahara/Aoyama was outlasted by Anna-Lena Friedsam/Raluca Olaru, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(4). Shibahara/Aoyama is currently playing in another Roland-Garros tuneup at Insternationaux de Strasbourg (France). The third-seeded duo defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova/Oksana Kalashnikova, 6-2, 6-4, in first-round doubles action Tuesday.
