- Trevor Bauer, RHP, Cincinnati Reds – In his final regular season start of a spectacular 2020 campaign, struck out 12 batters and allowed just one earned over eight innings on Sept. 23 against Milwaukee. The win helped the Reds secure the top wild card spot in the National League. Bauer finishes the regular season as one of the frontrunners for the NL Cy Young Award, as he led the league in ERA (1.73), shutouts (2), complete games (2), WHIP (0.80), and hits allowed per nine innings (5.1). He recorded exactly 100 strikeouts to finish second in the league in that stat. His adjusted ERA was 276, the fifth-highest in single-season MLB history. Bauer is scheduled to start game one of the best-of-three Wild Card Series for the Reds, which begins on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. PT. (TV: ESPN).
- Griffin Canning, RHP, Los Angeles Angels – Closed his 2020 campaign with arguably the best start of his career, as he fanned a career-high 10 while allowing just two hits and one earned run at San Diego on Sept. 22. The outing earned him his second consecutive win. He finished the year with a 2-3 record, 3.99 ERA, and 56 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings. He lowered his season ERA nearly a full run (4.88 to 3.99) between Aug. 22 and Sept. 22.
- Gerrit Cole, RHP, New York Yankees – Cole had another strong outing in his last start for the Yankees, tossing seven innings of one run ball and striking out seven at Toronto on Sept. 22. He finished his first year with the Yanks with a 7-3 record, 2.84 ERA, and 94 strikeouts in 73 innings. He was the league leader in complete games (2) and shutouts (1) while ranking in the top-10 in wins (second), strikeouts (third), WHIP (0.96, fourth), and ERA (sixth). He is slated to take the ball for New York in game one of their Wild Card series on Tuesday afternoon (4:00 p.m. PT, TV: ESPN).
- Brandon Crawford, SS, San Francisco Giants – Crawford capped off a resurgent 2020 season with a pair of home runs in a season-ending series with the Padres as the Giants narrowly missed qualifying for the 2020 MLB Postseason. He closed the year with a .256/.326/.465 slash line, establishing a new career high in slugging (his batting average and OBP trailed only his 2016 campaign).
- Tyler Heineman, C, San Francisco Giants – Was recalled from San Francisco's alternate site and appeared in one game, on Sept. 26, to wrap up his 2020 campaign. The former Bruin backstop had eight hits in 15 games for the Giants this year.
- James Kaprielian, RHP, Oakland Athletics – Was recalled from Oakland's alternative site and made one relief appearance, striking out three batters in 1 2/3 innings against Seattle on Sept. 26. He made two appearances in his debut MLB season.
- Adam Plutko, RHP, Cleveland Indians – Made a pair of appearances out of the bullpen last week, throwing three innings of one-run relief against the White Sox on Sept. 22 before putting up a scoreless frame against Pittsburgh on Sept. 25. He was 2-2 for the season with a 4.88 ERA as both a starter and reliever for Cleveland. He is projected to make the postseason roster for his club, whichs opens its Wild Card series against New York on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. PT (TV: ESPN).
- Pat Valaika, INF, Baltimore Orioles – Wrapped up an impressive offensive campaign with a pair of three-hit performances at Boston, including a mammoth home run over the Green Monster on Sept. 24. He batted .323 for the month of September with three home runs and eight RBIs. Valaika closed the year with a .277/.315/.475 slash line, giving him new career bests in batting average and OBP.
- Dave Roberts, manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, steered his club to an MLB-best 43-17 record in the 2020 regular season. The Dodgers are the No. 1 seed in the National League and open their Wild Card series against Milwaukee on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. PT (TV: ESPN).
- Jordin Canada, G, Seattle Storm – Jordin Canada ('18) continued to progress in her third season with the Seattle Storm, starting 11 games at the point. She averaged a career-high 5.5 assists per contest, the third-highest total in the league. She recorded a pair of 10-assist performances for the Storm and added six double-digit scoring games. She helped lead the Storm to an 18-4 record and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and have already advanced to the semifinal rounds.
- Seattle Associate Head Coach Noelle Quinn ('07) has helped guide the Storm to an 18-4 record and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming WNBA Playoffs. Quinn was elevated to Associate Head Coach for the duration of the 2020 WNBA season.
- The Storm have reached the WNBA Finals and await the winner of the Las Vegas Aces-Connecticut Sun series. The Finals start on Friday at 4:00 p.m. PT (TV: ESPN2).
- Krys Barnes, LB, Green Bay Packers – The undrafted rookie continued to shine for unbeaten Green Bay, matching a game-high total of nine tackles at one starting inside linebacker spot.
- Jayon Brown, ILB, Tennessee Titans – Brown matched a team high with seven total tackles while adding one QB hit and a pass defense for 3-0 Tennessee, which overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half.
- Ka'imi Fairbairn, K, Houston Texans – Fairbairn converted each of his three extra-point attempts and found the end zone on two of four kickoffs for touchbacks.
- Darnay Holmes, CB, New York Giants – The first-year pro turned in three tackles to bring his season total to eight.
- Myles Jack, MLB, Jacksonville Jaguars – Jack turned in 11 total tackles for the third time in as many games, leading Jacksonville.
- Joshua Kelley, RB, Los Angeles Chargers – The rookie carried the ball eight times for 43 yards, though his long rush of 16 yards resulted in a fumble lost. He also registered two catches for nine yards.
- Eric Kendricks, MLB, Minnesota Vikings – Kendricks hit double figures in the tackle department for the third game in a row, finishing with 10 stops. He added one pass defense. At the conclusion of Sunday's games, Kendricks and Jack were among three league leaders (Devin White) in tackles, with 33.
- Marcedes Lewis, TE, Green Bay Packers – Lewis recorded his first touchdown of the season, catching an 18-yard strike from quarterback Aaron Rodgers to give Green Bay a 27-20 third-quarter lead at New Orleans. Lewis has started each game for the 3-0 Packers.
- Cassius Marsh, DE, Jacksonville Jaguars – Marsh contributed three tackles Thursday night, matching his Week 2 total.
- Jacob Tuioti-Mariner, DT, Atlanta Falcons – Again seeing increased defensive snaps, Tuioti-Mariner posted three total tackles and one QB hit.
- Kenny Young, ILB, Los Angeles Rams – Young collected three total tackles in a back-and-forth contest at Buffalo.
- TE Devin Asiasi (New England Patriots), OT Andre James (Las Vegas Raiders), OT Conor McDermott (New York Jets), OT Kolton Miller (Las Vegas Raiders), CB Fabian Moreau (Washington Football Team), C Scott Quessenberry (Los Angeles Chargers) and WR Matthew Slater (New England Patriots) also played, but did not record any statistics.
- PGA Tour – The TOUR heads to Jackson, Miss. for the Sanderson Farms Championship this week (Thursday-Sunday). Kevin Chappell is the lone Bruin in the field.
- Korn Ferry Tour – Jake Knapp (-7) tied for 41st at last week's Wichita Open in Wichita, Kan., which included a second-round, 7-under 63. The Tour heads to Savannah, Ga. for the Savannah Golf Championship this week (Thursday-Sunday). Knapp is in the field.
- LPGA Tour – After a week off, the LPGA Tour resumes in Galloway, N.J. at the ShopRite LPGA Classic (Thursday-Sunday). Tiffany Joh, Bronte Law, Ryann O'Toole and Patty Tavatanakit are in the field.
- Symetra Tour – Lee Lopez (-6, T-13), Louise Ridderstrom (+3, T-57) and Lilia Vu (+4, T-60) all made the cut last week's IOA Classic in Longwood, Fla. Next up is the Symetra Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. (Friday-Sunday). Lopez, Vu and Stephanie Kono are in the field.
- Frankie Amaya, MF, FC Cincinnati – Started both of FC Cincinnati's games over the last week, playing the full 90 in a scoreless draw against Philadelphia on Sept. 23 and 57 minutes against NYCFC on Sept. 26. He's made 13 appearances – all starts – and scored his first professional goal this year.
- Jonathan Bornstein, D, Chicago Fire – Started both of Chicago's games last week, helping his club to a pair of shutouts. He played 74 minutes in a 4-0 win over Houston on Sept. 23, recording an assist, then played 89 minutes in a 2-0 triumph over Atlanta on Sept. 27.
- Reggie Cannon, D, Boavista FC (Portugal) – Started at right back on Sept. 26 as Boavista suffered a loss to Porto, who are atop the Portuguese Premier League table.
- Jordan Harvey, D, LAFC – Subbed on and played 34 minutes in LAFC's 6-0 win over Vancouver on Sept. 23.
- Ryan Hollingshead, D, FC Dallas – Started and played the full 90 in both of FC Dallas's games last week.
- Andy Rose, MF, Vancouver Whitecaps – Played in both of Vancouver's games last week, subbing on at halftime against LAFC on Sept. 23 and playing the full 90 against Portland on Sept. 27.
- Kelyn Rowe, MF, New England Revolution – Started and played 63 minutes against Montreal on Sept. 23. He took a season-high four shots in the contest.
- Jackson Yueill, MF, San Jose Earthquakes – Started and played the full 90 in both of San Jose's games last week. He was a pivotal figure in San Jose's dramatic 2-1 win at LAFC on Sept. 27, knocking in a near-post cross from inside the six-yard box in stoppage time to deliver the go-ahead and game-winning goal.
- Ashley Sanchez, F, Washington Spirit; Zoey Goralski, D, Chicago Red Stars (NWSL) – Sanchez and Goralski earned starts for their respective teams in a 1-1 draw on Sept. 26. Sanchez played the full 90, while Goralski played 46 minutes.
- Taylor Smith, D, Rosie White, MF, OL Reign (NWSL) – Smith and White earned starts and played the full 90 for their team in a 2-2 draw with Utah Royals FC on Sept. 26. After falling behind 2-0 in the 22nd minute, White tied the game six minutes later with her first goal of the year.
- Megan Oyster, D, Houston Dash (NWSL) – Oyster was an unused sub in Houston's 3-1 victory over Orlando Pride on Sept. 26.
- Sam Mewis, MF, Manchester City (England) – Mewis played the final 17 minutes for Manchester City in a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Sept. 27 in the quarterfinals of the FA Women's Cup. Man. City will next face Arsenal in the semifinals on Oct. 1.
- Jessie Fleming, MF, Chelsea FC (England) – Fleming was an unused sub in Chelsea FC's 2-1 loss to Everton in the FA Women's Cup quarterfinals on Sept. 27.
- Lauren Barnes, D, & Hailie Mace, F, Kristianstads DFF (Sweden) – Barnes and Mace started in Kristianstad's 2-1 loss to Växjö DFF on Sept. 26, the team's first loss in a month. Barnes played the full 90, while Mace played 77 minutes.
- Siri Ervik, GK, Kolbotn (Norway) – Ervik started in a 2-2 draw with Rosenborg Kvinner on Sept. 26. Kolbotn rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of goals in the 76th and 78th minute.
- Teagan Micah, GK, Arna-Bjørnar (Norway) – Micah did not suit in a 2-0 loss to Sandviken on Sept. 27.
- Darian Jenkins, F, Bordeaux (France) – Jenkins did not play in a 2-1 loss to Lyon on Sept. 27.
- Maxime Cressy – Cressy upset seventh-seeded Prajnesh Gunneswaran of India, 7-6(5), 6-4, on Center Court Monday at ATP Challenger Biella (Italy). Qualifier Andrea Pelligrino of Italy is next up for Cressy.
- Mackenzie McDonald – McDonald advanced to the French Open singles second round for the first time in his career, defeating Steven Diez of Canada by a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 score Monday. The win set up a showdown with 12-time Roland-Garros champion and second-seeded Rafael Nadal.
- Jean-Julien Rojer – Rojer and partner Horia Tecau reached the doubles semifinal round at the European Hamburg (Germany) Open before falling to eventual champion John Peers/Michael Venus. Rojer/Tecau defeated French tandem Nicolas Mahut/Fabrice Martin, 6-3, 7-5, after advancing past top-seeded Juan Sebastian Cabal/Robert Farah of Columbia in the opener. Rojer/Tecau will next play at the French Open Wednesday.

- Ena Shibahara – Shibahara and partner Shuko Aoyama, seeded third, advanced to the doubles semifinal round at Insternationaux de Strasbourg (France) before dropping a decision to top seed and eventual champion Nicole Melichar/Demi Schuurs. Shibahara/Aoyama beat Kateryna Bondarenko/Sharon Fichman, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the final four. The French Open is next for Shibahara/Aoyama.
