UCLA Athletics Announces Million Dollar Gift
January 19, 2021 | Bruin Athletics
UCLA Athletics announced today that it has received a gift of $1 million from a longtime philanthropic couple from Los Angeles who wish to be anonymous. The gift will go toward supporting student-athlete scholarships and operational needs of UCLA Football through the Wooden Athletic Fund.
"We are so grateful to this couple for stepping up, once again, to support UCLA Athletics," said Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond. "They were among the first Bruins I met with, and I learned about their passion for athletics and reputation as great Bruin supporters. I am incredibly thankful to see it in action. Their generous gift to the Wooden Athletic Fund will make a direct and immediate impact for our student-athletes."
This gift is one of many the benefactors have given to UCLA Athletics. Over the years, they have endowed several athletic and academic scholarships, donated to individual sport programs, and made a major financial commitment to capital projects such as the Wasserman Football Center.
The most immediate and direct way fans, alumni and friends can support UCLA student-athletes is by contributing to the Wooden Athletic Fund. Each gift to the Wooden Athletic Fund provides invaluable support for UCLA student-athletes from all 25 programs, directly impacting their ability to succeed in the classroom, in their respective sports, and in the community. In total, donations to the Wooden Athletic Fund for the 2020-21 campaign have reached close to $11 million from more than 3,900 members.
