TUCSON, Ariz.ย -- No. 4 UCLA (10-1) posted its third-straightย 5-0 sweep and sixth of the season without dropping a set in a win over Arizona State (4-5) on Saturday afternoon at the Pac-12 South Invitational at Bear Down Beach. With the win, the Bruins improved to 6-1 all-time against the Sun Devils.
Devon Newberry and Lindsey Sparks were the first to finish on court three with a 21-12, 21-15 straight-set win over Cierra Flood and Sarah Watersย to put UCLA up 1-0. Newberry and Sparks improved to 8-1 on the year with their fifth-consecutive victory.
Lea Monkhouse and Abby Van Winkle then made it 2-0 with an easy 21-7, 21-10 victory over ASU's Emily Anderson and Aleksandra Sochacka on court two. Monkhouse and Van Winkle improved to 5-2 on the year with their third-straight win.
Court one clinched the Bruins' dual victory as Lexy Denaburg and Savvy Simoย defeated Katelyn Carballo and Lexi Sweeney, 21-17, 21-16. Denaburg and Simo improved to 10-1 on the year with their sevenh-straight win.
Megan Muret and Jacqueline Quadeย then posted a 21-9, 24-22 win over Arizona State's Kate Fitzgerald and Taryn Ames on court four. Muret and Quade improved to 9-2 on the year with their seventh-straight win.
Rileigh Powers and Jaden Whitmarsh then finished off the sweep on court five, defeating the Sun Devils' Lila Bordis and Samantha Plaster, 21-9, 21-15. Powers and Whitmarsh improved to 7-2 on the year with their fifth-straight victory.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow when they close out the Pac-12 South Invitational with Oregon at 10:15ย a.m.
