Bruin Sprinters Dominate on Day Two of Stanford Invite

Stanford, Calif. โ€“ The Bruins finished up their trip to Northern California for the Stanford Invite, with the team's sprint group impressing with various relay and individual victories Saturday.

Sprints
UCLA's sprinters opened their day with the 4x100m relay competitions. The women's race saw Chinyere Okoro, Catherine Leger, Maddy Doane, and Makenzy Pierre-Webster combine to run 44.50 for the victory. The Bruins completed the sweep of the sprint relays with a victory on the men's side, as the quartet of Seth Holloway, Harrison Schrage, Cristian Moore, and Kenroy Higgins crossed at 40.35 to defeat California and San José State.

Higgins went on to take the win in the men's 100m, clocking a time of 10.69. Holloway finished third at 10.86. Okoro and Doane went 2-3 in the women's competition, posting wind-assisted times of 11.63 and 11.65, respectively. Meleni Rodney made her 2021 debut in the 400m, cruising to the win with a time of 53.37. The men's competition saw Chase Wells take sixth overall with a time of 48.03. Myles Misener-Daley finished ninth overall at 48.56.

Pierre-Webster took the individual 200m title later in the meet, crossing with a lifetime-best time of 23.80. Leger was close behind in second, going 23.85 to break the 24-second barrier for the first time in her collegiate career. Christian Grubb finished 11th overall in the men's heats at 22.52.

The UCLA women would go on to take the 4x400m victory, as the quartet of Kate Jendrezak, Leger, Pierre-Webster, and Rodney combined for a time of 3:44.30. The men completed the sweep, as Chase Wells, Myles Misener-Daley, Christopher Hill, and Ismail Turner combined for a winning time of 3:10.31.

Middle Distance/Distance
The day's action got started with the women's 800m. Jendrezak took sixth in the women's competition, clocking a time of 2:14.14. Jett Charvet notched a personal-best time in the men's race at 1:54.58 (sixth place). Mason Ratkovich followed in eighth, crossing in 1:57.24.

Paige Carter led the way for the Bruin women in the 1500m, clocking a personal-best time of 4:29.67 for 15th overall and third place in her heat. Gwyn George followed in 20th place with a time of 4:32.53. Ashley Johnson took 24th place on the day (4:51.66). Anthony Stone was the Bruins' top finisher in the men's race, crossing in eighth place with a lifetime-best time of 3:49.55. Jake Parker also ran a PR on the day, finishing 10th overall at 3:51.66. Andrew Martinez finished 13th overall with a time of 3:59.52.

Throws
Alyssa Wilson led the way in the women's discus, taking third place overall with a toss of 51.28m (168-03) in the first throws event of the day. Natalie Ramirez finished sixth overall with a mark of 48.38m (158-08). Lydia Liu took ninth at 39.97m (131-01). Dayne Gordien was the Bruins' top finisher on the men's side, clearing 50.01m (164-01) for second place collegiately. Gino Cruz launched a career-best 46.44m for seventh place overall while Kain Medrano took ninth at 45.16m (148-02).

The men's shot put saw Jacob Wilson post a career-best toss for the second-straight meet, notching a throw of 18.69m (61-04.00) for third place overall. Gordien took 10th at 15.13m (49-07.75). A. Wilson led the way on the women's side, taking the event victory with a mark of 15.95m (52-04.00). Ramirez posted a toss of 14.44m (47-04.50) for third place overall.

Pole Vault
Kyle Brown secured the victory in the men's pole vault competition, clearing 4.80m (15-09.00) on his first attempt at the height.

Hurdles/Jumps
Nyree Brown took fourth place in the women's 400m hurdles for the Bruins (1:06.76). Aiden Lieb crossed at 14.86 in the men's 110m hurdles for fifth place overall while Alexandra Chan took sixth in the women's 100mH at 14.84. Hawa Kamara was the Bruins' lone competitor in the women's long jump competition, finishing fourth overall with a clearance of 12.02m (39-05.25).
