Tavatanakit, Uribe Earn Spots for Tokyo Olympics

Bruin alums Patty Tavatanakit and Mariajo Uribe will represent their respective countries at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, as announced on Tuesday when the women's golf field was finalized.
The Rolex Women's Golf World Rankings were used to determine the eligibility of the 60-player field. Countries are allowed up to two players unless more players are ranked inside the Top 15, with a maximum of four representatives.
Tavatanakit, who will be making her Olympic debut, is one of two golfers representing Thailand. She vaulted from 161st in the world ending the 2020 calendar year to 12th as of Monday's ranking, which was used to determine the final field. In 11 tournaments in 2021, Tavatanakit has a major win at the ANA Inspiration in April and five additional Top 5 showings, including a T-5 finish at last weekend's KPMG Women's PGA Championship. She tied for third at the HBSC Women's World Championship and Honda LPGA Thailand in back-to-back weeks at the end of April and beginning of May and tied for fifth at the Gainbridge LPGA in February and Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play in May.
Uribe, representing Colombia, made her Olympic debut in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro during the Games' first women's golf tournament. She tied for 19th (-3, 281), which included a final-round, 5-under 66. Turning pro in 2009, Uribe has 14 Top 10 finishes on the LPGA Tour. Along with wearing the Colombia colors at the Rio Games, she also won individual and team golds at the 2015 Pan American Games.
The Olympic women's golf tournament will take place August 4-7 at Kasumigaseki Country Club.
