Jordan Chiles Selected to World Championships Team
October 22, 2022 | Gymnastics
Chiles, who helped lead the U.S. to Olympic silver last summer, will be joined on the squad by fellow NCAA gymnasts Jade Carey (Oregon State) and Leanne Wong (Florida); Shilese Jones, who auto-qualified to the team by recording the highest all-around score on day one (56.700); Skye Blakely;ย and replacement athlete Lexi Zeiss.
With Chiles, Carey and Wong making the squad, this will be just the eighth time that U.S. team members have competed as collegiate gymnasts and at the World Championships in the same calendar year. Mohini Bhardwaj was the only other Bruin to accomplish this feat, in 2001.Chiles placed second in the all-around on the first day of competition, scoring 56.100. She recorded the highest floor exercise score with a 14.250 and the second-highest uneven bars score with a 14.350. On day two, she competed on uneven bars and balance beam and recorded the No. 2 score on bars (14.250) and the No. 3 mark on beam (13.600).

As a UCLA freshman in 2022, Chiles was a NCAA qualifier on uneven bars and floor exercise and earned All-America honors on floor after finishing seventh in her session and 14th overall at the NCAA Championships. Chiles scored three perfect 10s in 2022, two on floor and one on uneven bars. Since the NCAA season ended in April, she has shined at the elite level, taking home three medals at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in August and winning gold on floor and silver on vault at the World Challenge Cup in Paris in September.
