October 27, 2022 | Women's Soccer
Reale's long-distance rocket broke a scoreless tie at 61:31, allowing the Bruins (16-1, 8-1 in the Pac-12) to record their third consecutive and 11th shutout win of the season.
UCLA outshot Washington State (8-5-4, 2-4-4) by a count of 26-6 and had 12 shots to the Cougars' three in the first half. Maricarmen Reyes was victimized twice by the left post, hitting it in nearly identical spots in the eighth and 20th minutes.
The Bruins continued to create opportunities in the second half but were continually thwarted by the Cougar defense until Reale's game-winning strike at 61:31. After receiving a pass from Sunshine Fontes, Reale fired a lethal left-footed shot from about 30 yards out. Washington State goalkeeper Nadia Cooper got a hand on it but could not fully control the ball, and it bounced off her hands and crossed the goal line, giving Reale her first goal of the season.

The Cougars pressed for the equalizer in the final five minutes of the game and had a dangerous opportunity in the box in the 85th minute that UCLA goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy was able to snag. Brzykcy made another big stop in the 86th minute, saving a header by Brianna McReynolds on the line.
Brzykcy finished the game with three saves to earn her sixth solo shutout of the year. Cooper made eight saves for the Cougars.
The Bruins will wrap up their regular season home schedule on Sunday, Oct. 30 against Washington on Senior Day. The Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 1:30 pm, with kickoff at 2:05 pm.
