Bruins Claim 3-0 Victory over Washington on Senior Day

October 30, 2022 | Women's Soccer

LOS ANGELES โ€“ Top-ranked UCLA scored three goals in the second half en route to a 3-0 Senior Day victory over Washington. Senior Jackie Gilday provided the perfect ending to the game, scoring her first career goal in the 88th minute. Ally Cook scored the game-winner in the 49th minute, and Quincy McMahon added a goal in the 56th minute.
ย
The Bruins (17-1, 9-1 in the Pac-12) outshot the Huskies 21-2, allowing just one shot in each half. The Huskies' lone first-half shot was nearly a game-changer. Just 41 seconds into the game, Summer Yates's shot hit the left post and then bounced off goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy and out of danger. Washington (9-6-3, 3-6-1) would not see another shot until the final 10 seconds of the game, when Shae Holmes' shot was blocked. Brzykcy earned the shutout victory, UCLA's fourth consecutive and 12th overall.
ย
UCLA, meanwhile, had the run of play, forcing Washington goalkeeper Olivia Sekany into five saves, including four in the first half. After a scoreless first half, UCLA went on the attack quickly and found the go-ahead goal less than four minutes into the second half. Ally Lemos connected with Cook in the box, and Cook slipped it past Holmes andย Sekany for her fifth goal of the season.
ย
McMahon, the reigning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, doubled the Bruins' lead in the 56th minute, firing a right-footed missile from about 25 yards out to record her first goal of the season and second of her career. Gilday put the cherry on top in the 88th minute, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career. After receiving a pass from Michaela Rosenbaum, Gilday dribbled up the field, evaded a defender and then hit a shot from outside the box that bounced past Sekany inside the right post. The Bruins will conclude the regular season at USC on Friday, Nov. 4 at 2pm. The Crosstown Showdown will take place at USC's McAlister Field.
