Bruins Drop Road Decision at No. 1 Washington, 3-2

SEATTLE – The UCLA men's soccer team fought back to get within a goal late against No. 1 Washington on Thursday night at Husky Soccer Stadium, but ultimately absorbed a 3-2 loss.
It marked the first time for UCLA allowing multiple goals since Sept. 10 against Grand Canyon, breaking a streak of 10 consecutive games. The result moved the Bruins' record to 9-6-1, 3-4-1.
The top-ranked Huskies meanwhile improved to 14-0-3 overall and clinched the 2022 Pac-12 title outright.
Redshirt sophomore Tucker Lepley and freshman forward Thomas Raimbault each notched their first goals of the season for the Bruins.
The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw through the first half, but the hosts pulled away with scores in the 48th and 66th minutes. Raimbault popped in a goal with just over a minute remaining to make things interesting, but the Bruins were held off the board the rest of the way.
After falling behind on a ninth-minute marker from Ilijah Paul, UCLA got on the board in the 30th minute thanks to a heads up play from Lepley.
The scoring play got started by sophomore forward Aaron Edwards, who tried to play a ball from just above the box. A Washington defender closed on Edwards and got his foot on the would-be pass, shooting it up into the air where UW keeper Sam Fowler came out to catch it. Due to rainy conditions, the ball ended up slipping through Fowler's fingers and back to ground, where Lepley quickly pounced it on it and deposited it into the empty net for the equalizer.
Lepley also picked up the primary assist on Raimbault's goal, sending in a low ball from the right edge of the box. A pair of Bruins were in position to receive the pass, with Charlie Crockford dummying to allow Raimbault to pop it in near-post from the edge of the six-yard box.
Sophomore keeper Nate Crockford made a game-high four saves for UCLA. The Bruins were outshot 12-4 overall for the contest.
UCLA returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., facing Oregon State on Pac-12 Insider.
