No. 11 UCLA Beats Fresno State 82-48 in Non-Conference Finale

December 20, 2022 | Women's Basketball

LOS ANGELES – UCLA Women's Basketball improved to 12-1 after defeating Fresno State 82-48 on Tuesday inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

UCLA shot a blazing 9-for-10 in the final quarter to seal Tuesday's victory over the Bulldogs. The Bruins snagged 12 steals and outrebounded Fresno State 35-22, grabbing 17 offensive boards in the win.

Four Bruins reached double figures in UCLA's highest scoring game of the season. Charisma Osborne led all scorers with 16 points on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting night. Gabriela Jaquez added a season-high 15 points off the bench, marking her sixth game in double figures. Jaquez also had a season-high four steals in the win. Kiki Rice (14 points, 6 rebounds, 6-11 FG) and Londynn Jones (10 points, 4-4 FT) rounded out scorers in double digits.

UCLA got off to a lethargic start in the first quarter, shooting just 1-for-6 through the first four minutes of play. The freshmen went to work, with Lina Sontag sinking a hook shot in the paint. Rice got hold of a loose ball off a Fresno State turnover on the next possession and launched it ahead to Jaquez on the break to tie the ball game. The Bruins would never trail again.

The Bulldogs were held to just nine points in the first as UCLA jumped out ahead 17-9.

Fresno State answered and brought the game within two points before UCLA kicked off a 13-0 run in the middle of the second quarter. Rice, Jaquez and Osborne accounted for all 13 points and totaled 17 in the period. The Bruins headed into halftime with a 40-25 lead.

Osborne was the first Bruin in double digits after driving to the lane off a Camryn Brown offensive board. Brown finished with five offensive boards and one defensive rebound.

The Bruins led 58-41 at the end of the third quarter.

UCLA did not take its foot off the gas in the fourth, throttling Fresno State on both ends of the floor. Facing staunch Bruin defense, the Bulldogs shot 3-for-15 (1-for-8 3FG) in the final ten minutes. Jones had eight of her 10 points in the fourth, shooting a perfect 2-2 FG and 4-4 FT in the period. The Bruins outscored Fresno State 24-7 to close out their final quarter of non-conference play.
