Silva Named First Team Academic All-American
December 07, 2022 | Men's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – UCLA junior defender Tommy Silva has been named a First Team Division I Academic All-American, it was announced by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) on Wednesday morning.
Silva, a communication major, becomes the first Bruin to earn Academic All-America honors since Michael Amick in 2016. Among 11 First Team selections, Silva was one of just four with an unblemished 4.0 GPA.
While this marks Silva's first national academic honor, he has been a highly decorated student since arriving in Westwood, making the UCLA Director's Honor Roll in every quarter he's been enrolled and serving as the men's soccer representative on the 2021-22 UCLA All-Academic Team as the player in the program with the highest cumulative GPA.
On the field, Silva was an All-Pac-12 Second Team selection this season after recording one goal and eight assists for 10 points. His eight helpers were tied for fourth in the league, and he was one of just two Bruins to start every game this season (Jose Sosa).
For his career, Silva has posted 33 points (9-15-33) in 51 games. UCLA is 16-1-1 all-time in games where Silva has scored a point.
