No. 16 UCLA Rowing Competes at San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO – The No. 16-ranked UCLA women's rowing program concluded two days of competition at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday morning, taking part in four 'A' races at Mission Bay.
 
UCLA's varsity eight and second varsity eight crews finished in fifth place and sixth place, respectively. The Bruins' novice eight crew raced to a second-place finish, while the varsity four crew finished in seventh place.
 
UCLA's novice eight crew had the program's most successful finish on Sunday morning, the second of two days of competition at the San Diego Crew Classic. The N8+ crew posted a final racing time of 7:23.787, less than eight seconds behind first-place finisher Washington (7:15.833). UCLA crossed the finish line in the novice eight race ahead of British Columbia, San Diego, Oklahoma and Loyola Marymount.
 
The Bruins' varsity eight crew finished fifth, behind Texas, California, Washington and USC – four programs who entered the weekend all ranked ahead of UCLA in the weekly Pocock CRCA top 20 poll. UCLA's V8+ crew posted a final racing time of 6:46.825.
 
The Bruins' second varsity eight crew finished in sixth place, out of eight boats. UCLA clocked in with a time of 7:06.081, less than four seconds behind Stanford (7:02.893). Texas won the 2V8+ race, followed by California, Washington and USC, respectively. UCLA crossed the finish line ahead of Gonzaga and Oklahoma.
 
UCLA's varsity four crew finished in seventh place on Sunday morning. Texas (7:27.748) won the V4+ race, crossing the finish line ahead of USC, California, Washington, Oklahoma and Gonzaga, respectively. The Bruins' crew posted a final racing time of 8:07.788.
 
UCLA will return to action in two weeks, competing at the Pac-12 Invitational in Las Vegas. Races are schedule for Saturday, April 9, and Sunday, April 10.
