Faraimo, Pola Haul in Pac-12 Weekly Honors
March 08, 2022 | Softball
SAN FRANCISCO – Redshirt junior Megan Faraimo was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week and utility Savannah Pola was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. This marks Faraimo's fourth Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week award and Pola's second time in back-to-back weeks taking home Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors.
Faraimo became just the fourth player in program history to toss multiple perfect games in their career when she sent down 15 straight Fresno State batters in the Bruins' 12-0 mercy-rule victory over the Bulldogs last Thursday. She joins Debbie Doom (six perfect games), Keira Goerl (2) and the Mark Kalmansohn UCLA Assistant Softball Coach Lisa Fernandez (2).
Faraimo's first perfect game came last season on Feb. 24 against San Diego State.
Against the Bulldogs, Faraimo struck out the first six batters she faced and finished the game with 12 of the 15 outs going down as K's. She now leads the Pac-12 with 106 strikeouts and a 11.59 strikeout per seven innings ratio.
Faraimo completed the weekend with another complete-game, double-digit strikeout (10) performance against Kansas.
Pola recorded a team-best nine RBI with five extra-base hits (7-for-14 total) at the Judi Garman Classic last weekend.
After doubling four times in the Bruins' last three games, Pola now leads the Pac-12 in the statistical category. Each of Pola's doubles drove in at least one run.
Pola's best game of her career to date came in the finale of the Judi Garman Classic against Texas A&M when she knocked in a career-high six RBI on a 3-for-4 night with two doubles and a solo home run for eight total bases. Pola knocked in the game's first five runs with her two doubles against the Aggies. She now leads UCLA and all Pac-12 freshmen with 23 RBI and ranks second on the squad with a .368 batting average and .448 on-base percentage (min. two plate appearances per game).
