Bruin 4x400m Relay Squads Impress on Final Day at Mt. SAC

UCLA's men's and women's 4x400m relay squads capped the team's week at the Mt. SAC Relays in style, with each quartet notching a season-best time en route to strong showings in the event on Saturday afternoon at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. The Bruins also sent a contingent of throwers to the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., capping a stretch of four-straight days of competition for UCLA Track & Field.
Mt. SAC Relays
The Bruin 4x4 squads were each placed into the invitational sections on Saturday afternoon.
The men's quartet of Ismail Turner, Myles Misener-Daley, Zaylon Thomas, and Cameron Reynolds finished second overall as the top collegiate team, crossing the line with a season-best time of 3:05.21. The UCLA men finished only behind a team of professional runners from USA Track & Field, which won the event with a time of 3:02.58.
The Bruin women's squad – comprised of Catherine Leger, Kate Jendrezak, Makenzy Pierre-Webster, and Shae Anderson – finished fourth overall and second in the collegiate competition. The team finished with a season-best time of 3:32.46, an almost five-second improvement from the squad's 3:37.38 performance at the West Coast Relays on March 31.
Beach Invitational
Jacob Wilson was the Bruins' top finisher in the men's shot put competition, taking third overall with a toss of 18.68m (61-03.50). Dayne Gordien earned a 22nd-place finish with a mark of 16.61m (54-06.00).
Lyvante Su'emai continued her strong debut campaign for the Bruins, finishing fifth in the women's discus as the top freshman in the meet. She posted a toss of 53.36m (175-0) in the event. Natalie Ramirez (48.59m, 159-5) and Lydia Liu (46.37m, 152-1) secured 17th and 27th place, respectively.
Su'emai also picked up a 13th-place finish in the women's shot put competition with a mark of 14.56m (47-09.25). Ramirez followed closely in 19th, going 14.34m (47-00.75).
The men's discus competition saw Aidan Elbettar and Ugonna Ikejiofor go 10-11 with marks of 54.84m (179-11) and 54.59m (179-1), respectively.
Next Meet
UCLA Track & Field sees its next action on Friday, April 22 at the UC Riverside Twilight. The Bruins then cap their regular season with a dual meet against USC on Sunday, May 1 at Loker Track Stadium on the Trojans' campus.
