UCLA Defeats Oregon, 4-2; Bruins Record Third Straight Sweep
April 03, 2022 | Softball
LOS ANGELES – Savannah Pola's three-run home run and Lauren Shaw's season-high 6.1 innings of one-run ball lifted the No. 3 UCLA softball team to a 4-2 victory and series sweep over No. 12 Oregon at Easton Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Bruins (31-3, 9-0 Pac-12) have matched their best start to Pac-12 play in program history set in 2019 after sweeping the top three teams picked to finish below them in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll (2. Washington, T-3. Arizona and T-3 Oregon). The only other season UCLA won nine straight Pac-12 games was in 2010.
UCLA is riding a 24-game winning streak and is one win shy of tying the longest of The Shelly Carlin UCLA Head Softball Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez's career of 25-straight games to open the 2018 season.
After a quiet first two innings, Thessa Malau'ulu and Briana Perez got on base with a pair of base hits to bring up Pola with two runners on. On a 3-1 offering, Pola blasted her fifth home run of the season to opposite field, putting up a three spot that the Bruins would ride to victory.
Pola now leads UCLA with 10 multi-RBI games this season. Her three RBI today were her most since knocking in six Bruins on March 5..@SavannahPola goes OPPO TACO! ????

Malau'ulu came through with key situational hitting the next inning with a base hit to the right side of the infield with two runners in scoring position to plate Lauren Hatch and advance Anna Vines to third base.
In Shaw's first start since March 12, she blanked the Ducks (24-8, 4-5 Pac-12) through her first four innings, letting only one runner to reach scoring position. Shaw struck out four batters total and allowed one earned run on the way to picking up her fourth win of the season.
Oregon's first tally of the game came in the fifth inning in the form of a solo blast by utility Jasmine Williams.
Anna Vines ended the sixth inning with a diving stop to her right and throw from her knees at second base for a 4-3 putout.
The Ducks scored one more run in the seventh off a UCLA throwing error and single to left field.
The Bruins travel to Stanford for their next three games at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium, beginning Friday, April 8, and ending Sunday, April 10. All three games are available for viewing on the Stanford Live Stream.
