Rice Records First Double-Double in Win over Cal, 87-70

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Bruins bounced back to defeat the California Golden Bears Sunday afternoon in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. UCLA improves to 15-3 (4-2 Pac-12) while Cal falls to 10-7 (1-5 Pac-12) after the late weekend matchup.
Kiki Rice had a career day on the court, recording the first double-double of her young career. Rice scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter and her 10th assist of the game off an inbound play to Londynn Jones. The freshman finished two rebounds shy of a triple-double, posting 15 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds in the win.
Four Bruins scored in double figures in Sunday's win – Jones led the team with 18 points (4-for-8 3FG), followed by Charisma Osborne with 17 points (7-for 15 FG, 3 3PM). Gina Conti scored 11 points and added three assists to round out scorers in double digits. Conti and Osborne have scored 10+ points in two-consecutive games.
The Bruins outrebounded the Golden Bears 36-24 in the match and assisted on 22 of 31 made baskets. UCLA's assist total matches its season high (22 vs. Fresno State, Dec. 20).
UCLA got off to a slow start in the first, shooting just 5-of-13 from the field. Cal shot a scorching 9-for-12 in the quarter to jump out to a 23-14 lead.
The Bruins fought back in the second quarter, bringing it within two points to close out the first half. UCLA was led by Osborne, who scored eight points in the second period. Rice added four points and grabbed four rebounds, and the Bruins headed into halftime trailing 36-38.
The third quarter was the Londynn Jones show inside Pauley Pavilion as the freshman poured in 11 points in seven minutes of play. The Riverside, Calif., native shook off a Golden Bear in zone defense to get an open look from beyond the arc; Jones nailed the three-pointer from the wing to bring the Bruins within one.
UCLA outscored Cal 22-19 in the third to take a one-point lead heading into the final quarter of play.
The Bruins exploded in the fourth quarter, scoring 29 points on 73.3% shooting in the period while holding Cal to just 13 points. Rice was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from the line
UCLA would go on to outscore the Golden Bears 12-5 in the final 2:30 of play, securing an 87-70 victory.
